Customs in San Jose CR airport

Hi we are leaving to Costa Rica side by side week. Online I have seen that you cant bring in fruits vegetables which I expected. I exercise not run across annihilation maxim you can not bring in cooked meat or craven or cheese ( from the USA) but yesterday a friend flew into Liberia and had her cheese taken abroad and nearly had her deli meat and chicken ( with clear packaging indicating from here). In case you are curious I have food restrictions and allergies so much easier to just bring my own food. Is there a prepare rule or does it depend who is at customs each day? Anyone flown lately and brought in food with no trouble? Thanks

I know at that place are restrictions on fruits, vegetables, seeds, and plants. Nosotros've brought in our ain sealed snacks like basics and granola confined without any problems. I believe that if the packaging is still sealed you tin can bring items in, only I oasis't seen information technology in writing.

I'g not sure what you mean by ."cooked meat or craven or cheese" and "deli meat." I can't picture those things being allowed in.

. I meant bringing in things like packaged cheese or cooked chicken ( as opposed to raw craven). By deli meat I mean things like corned beefiness and pastrami. pitiful for defoliation. Non sure where you are from only those are commonly eaten foods here in USA.

Sure. I know what cafeteria meat is. It was unclear how you programme to transport it.

Yous're going to ask the person behind the deli counter for a pound of corned beefiness. They will slice it and wrap it in plastic and/or paper and give it to you? No i is going to let you bring that through customs. You can attempt and declare it, just don't count on it getting through. An private bringing meat into another country is generally not a thing.

I've read on other travel boards that people have brought in meats and cheeses; some have had it confiscated and some oasis't. Information technology seems to assist if the packet is sealed, only you're taking a risk, and it could be confiscated, no guarantees unfortunately.

I don't think that in that location is a articulate yes or no respond - you might go through or you might not. Lunch meat or cheese that comes in a sealed package like from Hillshire Farms is more probable to get through than meat from a deli - I would expect that meat or cheese from a deli would be a no-go, but that a package sealed from the packing constitute might laissez passer. I wouldn't count on information technology though. Countries tend to be really finicky well-nigh allowing meat in.

Customs

When we landed all the bags were x-rayed but nosotros did non see them check a single one. Besides it was weird because there were no customs forms in the airplane or when landing. BUT if you are going you lot should know that nosotros may have merely been lucky because on the aeroplane they announced that we should beware because sometimes they do non permit food to be brought in so maybe sometimes they are strict.

That's good - that would be a shame to accept things confiscated. They zinged me once because they idea I had avocados in my bag. On further inspection, information technology was a pair of shoes!

I'm glad it turned out okay for yous, just I actually think you got lucky. I don't think the takeaway from this is that it will exist all correct to bring meat in.

I would not try to bring in deli meat. You tin get many American brands (although you volition pay more) such as boars head, Eckrich, etc in the grocery stores. Y'all won't find them in stores like Maxi Pali merely effort Auto Mercardo and some Wal Marts
